| Abstract: | This assignment deals with whether emotional intelligence exists, whether it is sex-linked, and if it is a constructed phenomenon created by modernism. Emotional intelligence is about developing and acknowledging one’s own, as well as others feelings, the ability to regulate these according to different social interactions, in which we find ourselves. With the help from, among others, Howard Gardner, Peter Salovey, John D. Mayer, David J. Sluyter, Daniel Goleman and Anthony Giddens it is concluded, that emotional intelligence is based on different skills, which can be trained and measured in different extent. Furthermore it is concluded, with the help from the theory of structuralism by Giddens, that emotional intelligence is a constructed phenomenon out of the interaction between individual and society. |
